Chart shows from 1985 to now?

Chart shows have dramatically changed throughout the years, from the type of presenter or DJ to the type of music played to the structure and rhythm. Depending on the music that's in 'fashion' at the specific time affects on the theme of the show, the presenter and the music played. For example if rock/punk was mainly in the charts the theme and rhythm of the chart show would likely to have an instrumental guitar/drum bass backing track for the introduction. Also it could affect the Dj presenting the chart show as they usually suit the music they play (classical music- upper class, posh male presenter)( hip hop/rap - lower working class,common/street accent and language etc)

Chart shows in 1985 were completely different to how they are today. Everything has gone from cheesy jingles to modern good quality shows/music and other elements. Chart shows were only ever heard on the radio where as now they can be heard and even watched on the internet, mobiles, tv and of corse the radio. The use of modern day technology has helped modernise and introduce chart shows to a bigger audience (mass) also the actual show can be watched where you can physically see the Dj at the studio and the guest which compared to chart shows in 1985 is much more interesting and entertaining. The 1985 chart shows i feel were extremely cheesy as they had jingles, a dj with a high enthusiastic voice were as chart shows now are more about interacting with the audience by using competitions, games and conversations about the media and news where as the chart shows in 1985 used to concenrate more on the chart show itself.

Chart show in Radio 1 in 1985
At the beginning of every show the Dj is introduced and the radio station with the radio's theme tune and jingles. Also the music genre is a sort of funky disco pop which connotes the chart shows music genre. The Dj goes straight into the chart show and the songs in the charts at the moment. The Dj's fast pace/ average pitch up beat with a presentational voice to keep the viewers entertained. The tone of the show is fast, up beat, chatty and entertaining with a feel good vibe and energy. The targeted audience for the show would be people obviously into the specific radio show and genre which would be mainly mainstream structure for the introduction is the cheesy jingles introducing the show and Dj talking (radio promotion) which leads on to presenting the chart show itself.

2011 Radio 1 The official chart with Reggie Yates
Reggie Yates (DJ) and guest (Jessie J)
The very first thing that happens at the beginning of the chart show is the Dj introduces the show with no jingle/theme tune or music which gives a more sophisticated, modern feel compared to the cheesy ingles in the 1985 version of Radio 1's chart show. Instead of paying attention on the actual chart show itself it goes straight into a 'guessing game' with a mystery famous guest. These techniques are used to keep the listeners listening and interested in the show compared to 1985 where it used to go straight into the songs in the charts. The elements used were very quiet music in the background, the Dj and guest with modern technolized theme tune at the end introducing the show. The music in the background was barely identifable but the guest was a hip hop artist so it suggests it would be around that genre. The Djs' voice was very common youngish male compared to the "posh" upper class highly motivated voice in the 1985's. The guest's voice (Jessie J) was again very common and "street" . The tone of the show seemed quite dull compared to the 1985 chart show as it had no energetic music at the start.  However the use of a conversation between the Dj an the guest gave a chatty comfortable feel (easy listening) whilst being humerous and entertaining. The audience for the show would again be a mass audience, mainly younger people who are more specifically into hip hop and pop music. The structure of the specific show is simply straight forward. The Dj presents show and immediately goes into guessing game with mystery guest which engages audience. Then leads to conversaton between Dj and guest with quiet music in the background. Then finishes with theme tune again introducing the show.

In conclusion everything from Dj's music, theme tune, style and by the way the chart show can be viewed has dramatically changed from 1985 to now which shows how much fashion and technology has changed during the years.
